Best Sellers Rank [BSR]

The Amazon Best Sellers Rank (BSR), also known as the “Amazon Sales Rank” is a score that Amazon assigns to a specific product based on historical sales data. This ranking represents the level of popularity of a product within its category and subcategory. BSR is used by software like Seller Amp and Jungle Scout to calculate sales per month along with other indicators.

You’ll be able to see examples of BSR on each product listing via scrolling down to the additional information section...

The higher the BSR ranking, the less popular a product is and therefore these products have lower sales per month. Products with lower BSR rankings are more popular and therefore sell more each month. Each time a customer orders a product, its BSR reduces relatively. If there are no customer orders then the BSR for the product will increase relative to the other products and their sales.

Please do not bear your judgement on sales via BSR alone as this is not an exact representation and can sometimes be misleading. For example, some categories are larger than others, so a product with a BSR of 20,000 in one category could have totally different sales per month compared to a product of the same BSR in another category. BSR is therefore not an around score for all products listed on Amazon and only an inner category score, relative only to products within that category. BRS is not always a real-time representation of the popularity of a product. This is due to BSR increasing with time as there are no sales. For example, an advent calendar at the start of December would still have a low BSR (and would therefore be a popular product) even though there are very few sales in December meaning the BSR will slowly start to increase as time progresses.

Some product categories do not have main category BSR rankings and will instead have sub-category rankings. Some product sub-categories do not have a BSR at all, which can cause software like Seller Amp or Jungle Scout to struggle / glitch when showing the sales per month, so please be cautious about this.
